Drop Dead Day

So, Cory announced last week that November 12 is "Drop Dead Day," the day when we will have all the numbers dropped that we will drop, and the date by which we need to know our parts on all of the remaining pieces. He has said to start committing our music to memory, which will allow us to watch Cory and put a lot more expression and emotion into our performance, not to mention how much better our cut-offs and start-ups will be!

Music for this season is $63.00 I will set up a PayPal payment option again this season, since it worked out so well for us last time. If you prefer to pay in check or cash, please bring it to rehearsal.

The dress code for this season is not going to be matching dresses, as we had hoped. Instead, Cory wants us to look like carolers, meaning wear a scarf, sweater or jacket, maybe muffs, and possibly hats, but you still have to do your hair. We will need to wear black skirts, Please bring what you would like to wear to Cory by the rehearsal on the 22nd so he can approve it for the performance.

Our performance will be Sunday, December 13, 2015 at 7 p.m. Please put it on your calendar and start talking to people about it!

Notes From Our First Rehearsal

In going over the recordings of our first rehearsal, I was reminded that there were several things that Cory said that should be posted here as a reminder. So, here they are:

  • If you are renting music this season, you need to completely erase any pencil markings you have made in the music. Please go through all the pieces thoroughly and make sure they are all in like-new condition before you turn them back in to Cory.
  • We are taking the choir to the next level. This means harder music, better discipline, a non-church performance venue, and matching outfits. Every member of the choir will need to step up the pace by practicing at home, coming on time to rehearsals and doing our best to do what we are asked by Cory.
  • Here is a picture of the dress Cory has chosen for the women. Please save your money to purchase your dress. We will get more information to you very soon about the dress. Men, you will be purchasing vests and ties, so be prepared for that as well.

This season we will be focusing on not only sounding more professional, but looking more professional as well. We will be purchasing lovely outfits so that we actually look like a choir. We are also looking for a venue other than a church for our performance. If you have something in mind, or a contact, please email Cory or Karen with the information.

Rehearsals start at 8:00 sharp every Thursday night. Be on time, and be sure to practice at home. We have a lot to work on!

Spring 2015 Performance Files Finally Available!

Hi Gang,

I'm sorry I haven't done this sooner. I got the files all separated and ready a couple of weeks ago, but I just haven't taken the time to sit down and get them posted to the blog--until now!

So, if you'd like to download the files from our spring concert, they are on the Practice Audio Files page.

I've told Siri I would make her a couple of CD's. If anyone else would like me to make them one, please let me know.

Notes from Sunday's Rehearsal

I really hope you all are making notes in your music. I don't know how else we can remember what Cory tells us to do at certain points in the music. I know I would be lost without all my notes!

Here are some things Cory mentioned that we need to remember. He said these in the last couple of rehearsals:

I've Got a Crush on You--make sure that the "sh" on "crush" is together. Watch Cory for the cut-offs. Watch your vowels on this piece. Relax, be happy!

I Got Plenty O Nothin--Enunciate! Nobody will understand the words if we don't sing them clearly.

May The Road Rise to Meet You--Please memorize this piece! This is THE piece this season that we MUST form an emotional connection to. (remember what Ralph suggested that one time, when Cory was out of the room...)

Don't talk through the piano introduction to ANY piece. How can you be prepared to come in if you're talking through the introduction?

Reminder for Sunday

Hey, Singers!

Don't forget we have rehearsal this Sunday at 8 pm, at my building.

Remember, too, that we have to have our parts down by that day or Cory will have us sing in 4-part groups. While this can be an interesting exercise, it also is really, really embarrassing if you don't have your part down! So, practice, practice, practice!! Know your part and then you're safe, no matter what happens.

See you Sunday!

New Music Coming!

Cory told us at our last rehearsal that he is reviewing another piece...or two...or three of music to add to our list as an ending song. So, be watching for that.

Spring Season Begins This Week!

Hello Singers!

We start our 2015 season tonight!

Bring your best voices and come on time to start singing Gershwin!

If, like me, you are sadly lacking in knowing who the Gershwins are, (there are two brothers), here's a link to the Gershwin Official Website

It's going to be a fun season! See you soon!
