Meet the Nufers

Harold and Marian Nufer have been with the chorus since the beginning. Marian sings soprano and Harold sings bass. They are faithful, wonderful people. Harold has the distinction of being our oldest choir member.

Here's what they have to say about themselves:

 Marian Nufer

I was born in a suburb of Los Angeles, but my mother (and two generations before her) was born in Lehi. So I feel at home here!  My birthday is Nov. 9, many years ago (ha). I have six children, 32 grandchildren, and 21 greats (another due this June) Four of our kids live in this area.

I work in the Mt.Timpanogos Temple as an ordinance worker, which makes me feel that I have "graduated" after serving in most of the callings a woman can hold in the Church, including serving with my husband as a senior missionary to Norway just before moving here.

We spent eleven years as an "Air Force Family" on active duty, and lived in Georgia, South Carolina, Norway, Massachusetts, Sacramento, California. and Provo. After the active duty was over, we moved to Michigan.

After raising our family in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Harold took a job teaching on U.S. military bases in Europe. We lived in several cities in Germany, and in Italy and Spain.  It was a wonderful adventure, and I loved studying the languages in each country, as well as sight-seeing.  I feel it prepared me to be able to pronounce names in the temple.

My hobbies are reading and singing and keeping up with my family and garden. I love Mexican and Chinese food. Can't name one favorite movie or book because I like to experience a wide variety.  (Hence my membership in a Book Club that Cory hates because it meets on Thursdays.)

Like my wife, Marian, I was also born in the L.A. area:  Monterey Park, not far from where she was born--but, we didn't meet each other til I was 21 and just finishing a two-year mission to the Eastern States.

My birthday is on l7 February.  I won't mention the year, for that would give my age.  A hint, though:  It was the year F.D.R. became President.  My family remained in the L.A. area--mainly, in the West Hollywood area (which is a place where "questionable people" live today.  Sigh!  But, I didn't become "one of those!")

As for schooling, I went thru the l2 years to graduation in High School, then got in one semester at UCLA before going on a two-year mission to the Eastern States.  After that experience, I re-entered that university & graduated in Jan., '57.  (Oh, and I married Marian seven months earlier, in the L.A. Temple--which opened that year ['56]).

The two of us spent the next 30 years in different places--such as in the U.S., Norway, back to the U.S., then I was sent to So. Vietnam for a year ('67-'68).  And, I picked up two graduate degrees at Tufts University, where I taught in the Air Force ROTC for four years. And, we lived in parts of the U.S. and Europe over the years.

So, do I have hobbies?  I like photography.  And singing.  I've also written three books & numerous articles.
